JAMB Subject Combinations — Medical Sciences

The Faculty of Medical Sciences (often subdivided into Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and Faculty of Clinical Sciences in Nigerian universities) covers the scientific and clinical study of human health, disease, treatment and the broader medical sciences. Departments typically include Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science, and the clinical departments — Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Community Medicine, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, Radiology and Anaesthesia. The faculty hosts the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) programme — a 6-year programme that produces Nigeria's medical doctors after Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) accreditation. Allied programmes include Nursing Science, Medical Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Optometry, Anatomy and Physiology. Graduates after MDCN provisional registration complete a mandatory one-year house officer internship, after which they practise as medical officers in federal teaching hospitals, Federal Medical Centres, state hospitals, private hospitals, NGOs and international health organisations. 13 courses indexed.
