Pre-admission planning tools
If you are still preparing for or just completed JAMB UTME, the most valuable tools are the ones that test whether your numbers actually qualify you for what you want.
- Admission Chances Checker — enter your UTME score, projected Post-UTME, target course and target institution. The checker compares against the institution\'s departmental cut-off, the aggregate formula, and the recent admitted score band to give you a realistic probability.
- Aggregate Score Calculator — implements the verified aggregate formula for every major Nigerian university. UNILAG, UI, OAU, UNN, ABU, BUK, FUTA and dozens more. Plug in your UTME and Post-UTME and get the exact aggregate the institution will compute.
- JAMB Subject Combination Checker — confirms that your four UTME subjects match the course you want to study, at the institution you want to study it. Wrong subject combination is the single most common reason admission applications are rejected automatically.
- JAMB Cut-Off Mark Checker — enter your UTME score and instantly see which Nigerian institutions consider you within range for any course. Use it to build a realistic A-list, B-list and C-list of schools.
Course and career discovery
For candidates still narrowing their course choice, two tools combine your interests with eligibility data.
- Course Finder — filter Nigerian degree programmes by faculty, subject combination, duration and entry route. Useful for candidates with strong subjects in two clusters who want to see all the options.
- Compare Schools — pull up to four institutions side by side on cutoff, fees, ownership, location, accreditation status and student population. Cuts through the noise of forum opinions.
Cost planning tools
The cost of attending a Nigerian tertiary institution is rarely just the published tuition. Acceptance fees, accommodation, books, faculty levies, departmental dues, transport and feeding combine to several multiples of the visible tuition. These tools give you a realistic total.
- Education Cost Calculator — total cost of completing a degree at a chosen institution. Adds session-on-session inflation, acceptance fees, books, feeding and transport. Most users discover the real cost is 2.5x to 4x the visible tuition.
- Fees Estimator — current academic-year tuition and acceptance fees for federal, state and private institutions. Useful when comparing the immediate cash outlay.
- Accommodation Estimator — hostel versus off-campus cost projection for student towns including Lagos, Ibadan, Ile-Ife, Nsukka, Zaria, Kano and Port Harcourt. Useful for budgeting beyond first year when on-campus accommodation is rarely available.
- Scholarship Finder — matches you against active Nigerian scholarship opportunities based on your level, course, state of origin and circumstances.
In-school academic tools
Once you are admitted, the focus shifts to maintaining a strong GPA. These tools use the standard Nigerian grading systems.
- GPA Calculator — both 4-point and 5-point scales, configurable to either system. Lets you input course units, grades and see the resulting GPA. Used by students at every NUC-accredited Nigerian university.
- CGPA Calculator — cumulative GPA across multiple semesters. Lets you project the impact of a future semester\'s results on your degree classification (First Class, 2:1, 2:2, 3rd Class).
How accurate are these tools?
The calculators that implement institutional formulas (aggregate, GPA, CGPA) are 100% accurate as long as you input the right numbers — they use the exact formula each institution publishes. The cost estimators are 85–95% accurate; they use current published fee data plus a documented inflation factor, but actual costs vary with department-specific levies and personal living standards.
The Admission Chances Checker is calibrated against published cut-offs and the most recent two cycles of admission data — it gives a probability band, not a guarantee. Real admission outcomes also depend on factors no public tool can capture (catchment area considerations, slot competition in your specific cohort, character screening).
Why every tool is free
academics.ng tools exist to make Nigerian admission and academic planning legible. The data behind them — institutional cutoffs, aggregate formulas, fee bands, scholarship deadlines — is public information that simply was not aggregated in one accurate place. We will never charge for any planning calculator. Sustained funding comes from school sponsorship of institutional profile pages, not from gating tools behind paywalls.
