University of Ilesa, Osun State

University of Ilesa is a state-owned university located in Ilesa, Osun State, in south-western Nigeria. The institution was established by the Osun State Government to extend tertiary education access to the Ijesha-speaking communities of central-eastern Osun State, complementing Osun State University (UNIOSUN) which operates a multi-campus federated structure across the state. The university operates faculties in the arts, sciences, social sciences, management sciences and education. The institution serves the demand for tertiary education from Ilesa and surrounding Ijesha towns including Ipetu-Ijesha, Esa-Oke and Ilesa rural communities.

History

University of Ilesa was established by the Osun State Government as a state-owned university located in Ilesa, the second-largest city in Osun State and the cultural capital of Ijeshaland. The institution received NUC approval and commenced operations admitting its inaugural cohort, building academic capacity and infrastructure progressively. The Ilesa location reflects the state\'s strategy to provide tertiary education access across all senatorial districts, complementing UNIOSUN campuses elsewhere. University of Ilesa operates from a campus in Ilesa, in Ilesa East Local Government Area, eastern Osun State. The campus features academic buildings, lecture halls, laboratories, the library, hostels and administrative facilities under continued development. Ilesa is connected by road to Osogbo (about 45 minutes west), Akure (1.5 hours east) and Ife (45 minutes south). Air access is via Ibadan Airport (about 2 hours west) or Akure Airport (1.5 hours east) for flights to Lagos and Abuja.
