History
The institution was established in 1982 as Obafemi Awolowo University, Ado-Ekiti by Ondo State Edict (Ekiti State was then part of Ondo State). Following the creation of Ekiti State from Ondo State in 1996, the institution was reorganised under the Ekiti State Government and renamed University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD). In 2010, the institution was again renamed Ekiti State University (EKSU) as part of the Ekiti State government's reorganisation of higher education. The founding faculties were Arts, Sciences, Education and Social Sciences, with the Faculties of Law, Engineering, Agriculture, Management Sciences and Medicine added through the 1990s and 2000s. The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital was developed to provide clinical training. EKSU has produced senior public officials, judges, academics and corporate leaders for the Ekiti State and broader South-West region.
