AbdulKadir Kure University, Minna is a state-owned university located in Minna, Niger State, in north-central Nigeria. The institution was established by the Niger State Government and named in honour of late Governor Abdulkadir Kure, who served as Niger State governor from 1999 to 2007 and was widely credited with substantial educational and infrastructural investment in the state. The university offers undergraduate programmes across faculties in the sciences, social sciences, education, management and agricultural sciences, and serves as an additional higher education option for Niger State residents alongside Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai. The institution focuses on producing graduates equipped to support Niger State\'s economic development priorities in agriculture, mining and renewable energy.

History

AbdulKadir Kure University was established by the Niger State Government through state legislation as a second state-owned university for Niger State, complementing Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai which had served as the sole state university since 2005. The institution was named in posthumous honour of Engineer Abdulkadir Kure, the elected governor of Niger State from May 1999 to May 2007, in recognition of his administration\'s investment in education and infrastructure. The university received National Universities Commission (NUC) approval and commenced academic activities admitting its inaugural cohort of students in the early 2020s. Founding faculties were configured to address gaps in Niger State\'s tertiary education capacity, particularly in sciences, education and management. The institution is positioned to serve the growing population of secondary school leavers in Niger State and adjacent regions, and to support state development goals.
