Federal Polytechnic Ilaro is a federal polytechnic located in Ilaro, Ogun State, in south-western Nigeria. History
Federal Polytechnic Ilaro was established in 1979 as part of the federal polytechnic establishment programme of the Shehu Shagari administration that produced a wave of federal polytechnics across Nigeria\'s regions. The Ilaro location, in Ogun State\'s Yewa division, was selected for available land and to extend tertiary education access to western Ogun communities. The institution admitted its first students in 1979 with founding schools in engineering and applied sciences. Through the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s FPI expanded faculty offerings, adding schools in business studies, environmental studies and communication technology. The institution has been important as a tertiary education provider for indigenes of Ogun State and beyond.

Federal Polytechnic Ilaro operates from a main campus in Ilaro, in Yewa South Local Government Area, western Ogun State, with academic schools complexes, engineering workshops and laboratories, the institution library, lecture theatres, hostels and a sports complex. Ilaro is connected by road to Abeokuta (about 1.5 hours east), Lagos (2 hours south-east) and into Benin Republic via the western border. Air access is via Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos with daily international and domestic flights.
