History

Federal Polytechnic Bida was established in 1977 as one of the earliest federal polytechnics, predating the broader federal polytechnic establishment wave of 1979. The Bida location was selected for available land and the historical significance of Bida as a Nupe cultural and commercial centre. The institution admitted its first students in 1978 with founding schools in engineering and applied sciences. Through the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s FPB expanded substantially, adding schools in environmental studies, business studies and communication technology. The institution has played an important role in providing technical education access for indigenes of Niger State, Kogi State, Kwara State and adjacent areas.
