Adult Education

Adult Education is a 4-year BEd programme offered by Nigerian universities accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). The programme combines theoretical foundations with practical training, integrating classroom instruction, laboratory and field work, supervised attachments and a final-year research project. Students progress through 100-level foundation courses (general studies, basic sciences, communication skills), 200- and 300-level core specialisation modules, and 400-level (and 500/600-level where applicable) advanced and professional modules. Core topics span the full range of disciplines within the Adult Education field, with elective modules permitting specialisation in areas aligned with individual interests and emerging industry demands. The programme develops analytical thinking, problem-solving, written and oral communication, teamwork, and the specialised technical and professional skills required for Adult Education practice. The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) for Adult Education provides the regulatory framework for curriculum content and quality assurance across all accredited Nigerian universities offering the programme.

Five SSCE credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus three course-relevant subjects.

Standard O'Level requirement: at least 5 credit passes in not more than 2 sittings (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB). Required subjects typically include:

Typical employers include private sector companies, federal and state government agencies, parastatals, multinational corporations operating in Nigeria, NGOs and international development organisations, academic institutions, and consulting firms. Entry-level salaries typically range from ₦80,000 to ₦250,000 monthly in Nigeria depending on sector and employer, with mid-career professionals earning ₦300,000-₦700,000 monthly, and senior professionals and specialists earning ₦800,000-₦2,500,000+ monthly. International postings, multinational employment and specialised expertise command substantially higher earnings. Postgraduate study (Master\'s, MPhil, PhD) is available at Nigerian and international universities, with professional certifications (where relevant to the discipline) providing additional career-advancement opportunities and entry into specialised practice areas.
