1. JAMB UTME Requirements

To apply to University of Nigeria, Nsukka, you must sit the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and meet these minimums:

  • Minimum JAMB score: 180 for most courses. Competitive courses (Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Engineering) require 230โ€“290.
  • Choose UNN as your first or second choice institution on the JAMB CAPS portal.
  • Correct subject combination โ€” your JAMB subjects must match the course you're applying for. Use our Subject Checker to verify.

2. O'Level Requirements

You must have at least five (5) credit passes in your O'Level (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB) at not more than two sittings. These must include:

  • English Language (compulsory for all courses)
  • Mathematics (compulsory for most courses)
  • Three (3) other relevant subjects depending on your course of study

See the specific course pages for the exact O'Level subjects required.

3. Post-UTME Screening

University of Nigeria, Nsukka runs a Post-UTME (post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) screening for candidates who select it as a first or second choice. The Post-UTME usually includes:

  • Computer-Based Test (CBT) covering English, current affairs and course-related questions.
  • Document verification โ€” present original O'Level results, JAMB result slip and birth certificate.
  • Registration fee : currently โ‚ฆ3,190 paid via the official portal.

4. Aggregate Score Formula

UNN ranks candidates by an aggregate score โ€” not by JAMB alone. The standard formula is:

Aggregate = (JAMB Score รท 8) + (Post-UTME Score รท 2)
Maximum aggregate: 100. Most courses require 50+; competitive courses require 70+.

Some courses use O'Level grading instead of (or alongside) Post-UTME. Check the course-specific cutoff page or our aggregate calculator.

5. How to Apply โ€” Step by Step

  1. Sit JAMB UTME โ€” register on the JAMB portal between January and March. Score at least the minimum for your course.
  2. Select UNN as first or second choice during JAMB registration.
  3. Buy Post-UTME form from the official portal when registration opens (typically Mayโ€“July).
  4. Sit Post-UTME at the scheduled centre. Take print-outs of JAMB result and O'Level result.
  5. Check admission status on JAMB CAPS and the UNN portal.
  6. Accept admission on CAPS within the deadline.
  7. Pay acceptance fee and complete clearance at the school.

Additional Notes

Admissions are processed through JAMB UTME, followed by institutional Post-UTME screening. Direct Entry candidates may apply through JAMB. Aggregate score is computed as 50% JAMB + 50% Post-UTME for most courses.
