About Nigeria Police Academy Wudil
The Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil (POLAC) is the federal university affiliated with the Nigeria Police Force, located in Wudil, Kano State. POLAC operates academic programmes for cadets training to become commissioned officers of the Nigeria Police Force, alongside conventional undergraduate programmes for civilian students admitted through JAMB UTME. The Academy operates 4 faculties covering Arts and Social Sciences, Sciences, Management and Information Sciences, and Law. Student enrolment includes both Police cadets undergoing professional training and civilian students pursuing standard university degrees. POLAC graduates are commissioned as Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) on completing their five-year combined academic and police training programme, paralleling the model used by the Nigerian Defence Academy for military cadets.
History
The Nigeria Police Academy was originally founded in 1988 as a training college affiliated with Bayero University, Kano for academic accreditation purposes. In 2013, the Academy was elevated to federal university status by amendment to the Police Academy Act, making it a degree-awarding institution in its own right with the additional mandate of training Nigeria Police Force officer cadets. The Academy admitted its first independent university students in 2013. The institution operates as both a Police training establishment and a federal university, with uniformed cadets undertaking a five-year combined programme of academic studies and Police training. Civilian students admitted through JAMB UTME follow conventional four-year academic programmes. POLAC has produced senior Police officers who have risen through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force.
