Federal University of Technology, Babura is a federal specialised technology university located in Babura, Jigawa State, in north-western Nigeria. The institution operates faculties spanning engineering, applied sciences, computing and information technology, environmental sciences and management technology. The university is positioned to address the substantial demand for technology graduates in north-western Nigeria, where private and specialised tertiary education provision has historically lagged behind the South. The institution complements the federal Federal University Dutse, Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa, Jigawa State Polytechnic and Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure in providing diversified federal and state tertiary education access for Jigawa.

History

Federal University of Technology, Babura was established by the Federal Government as part of the 2023-era expansion of federal specialised universities. The Babura location, in Babura Local Government Area, north-eastern Jigawa State, was selected for available land and to extend federal specialised tertiary education access to a historically educationally disadvantaged region. The institution received NUC approval as a specialised technology university and admitted its inaugural cohort. Founding faculties focus on engineering and technology disciplines aligned with national workforce development priorities and addressing the historic educational disadvantage of north-western Nigeria.

Federal University of Technology, Babura operates from a campus in Babura, in Babura Local Government Area, north-eastern Jigawa State. The campus features academic infrastructure including engineering laboratories, applied science facilities, computing buildings, the university library, lecture theatres, student halls of residence and sports facilities. Babura is connected by road to Hadejia (about 1 hour south-west), Dutse (3 hours south) and Kano (3 hours west). Air access is via Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport with daily flights to Lagos and Abuja and direct international flights to Cairo and Jeddah.
