Caritas operates faculties spanning the natural and applied sciences, environmental sciences, management sciences, humanities and education. Student enrolment is moderate across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The institution is recognised for its management sciences, computing and applied sciences programmes. Caritas operates with Catholic ethos but admits students of all faiths. The name "Caritas" means "charity" or "love" in Latin, reflecting the Catholic emphasis on charitable service. The Enugu location provides access to the historic South-East intellectual centre.
History
Caritas University was established in 2005 by the Saviour of the World Ministries International, a Catholic-aligned ministry founded by Reverend Father Emmanuel Edeh, CSSp โ a Catholic priest who had earlier founded Madonna University (1999). After developing Madonna into a multi-campus institution, Father Edeh founded Caritas as a second Catholic-tradition private university with Enugu State location. The institution was named "Caritas" reflecting Catholic charitable values. Caritas admitted its first students in 2005 with founding faculties in management sciences, computing and humanities. The institution has grown progressively, building reputation in the South-East for accessible private Catholic higher education and steadily expanding faculty offerings under Father Edeh\'s ongoing leadership.
