History

African Aviation and Aerospace University was established by the Federal Government as part of the 2023-era expansion of federal specialised universities. The institution was conceived to address Nigeria\'s acute shortage of locally-trained aviation professionals and the broader African demand for aviation industry workforce. The university\'s establishment reflects federal recognition that Africa\'s aviation industry — currently underserved by domestic training capacity — will require substantial professional workforce growth as middle-class travel increases and intra-African aviation expands. AAAU received NUC approval as a specialised university and admitted its inaugural cohort. The institution operates with specialised aviation industry partnerships, including with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and major Nigerian airlines.
