History
Adeyemi College of Education was established in 1963 in Ondo town as one of the earliest teacher training colleges in western Nigeria, originally to address acute shortages of trained secondary school teachers following Nigeria\'s independence. The institution was named in honour of Sir Adeyemi Adesoji Aderemi, the Ooni of Ife at the time. Through the 1970s the institution was federalised and became Federal College of Education Adeyemi. In 2023 the institution was elevated to federal university status as part of a federal government initiative to upgrade leading colleges of education to federal universities of education, gaining the name Adeyemi Federal University of Education. The transition preserved the institution\'s focus on teacher education while expanding degree-awarding capacity beyond the previous Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) affiliation programmes.
