About Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja
Nile University of Nigeria (NUN), located in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, is a private university with Turkish-affiliated heritage. The institution was formerly known as Nigerian Turkish Nile University but rebranded after political developments in Turkey-Nigeria relations affected the original Turkish partnership. NUN operates faculties spanning engineering, sciences, social sciences, management sciences, basic medical sciences, clinical sciences and law. Student enrolment exceeds 4,000 across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The institution is recognised for its medical school (one of the early private medical schools in Nigeria), engineering programmes and the sciences. The Abuja location attracts a diverse student body from across Nigeria.
History
Nile University of Nigeria was originally established in 2009 as Nigerian Turkish Nile University by the Surat Group, a Turkish educational foundation associated with the Hizmet movement, in partnership with Nigerian investors. The institution was conceived to bring Turkish higher education quality standards to Nigeria. Following the 2016 attempted coup in Turkey and subsequent Turkish government action against Hizmet-affiliated institutions worldwide, Turkish involvement in the university was wound down and the institution was rebranded as Nile University of Nigeria. The university has continued operations under Nigerian ownership and management, retaining its distinctive curriculum and academic approach. NUN admitted its first medical students after receiving MDCN approval, and has built reputation as one of Nigeria\'s established private universities.
