Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) is a private university with American-affiliated heritage, located in Kano, Kano State, in north-western Nigeria. The institution operates faculties spanning the natural and applied sciences, social and management sciences, humanities, computing and basic medical sciences. The university is named in honour of Hajiya Maryam Abacha, the wife of former Nigerian Head of State General Sani Abacha. History
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria was established in 2014 as a private university with American educational heritage influences, providing American-style higher education in northern Nigeria. The institution was named in honour of Hajiya Maryam Abacha, the widow of General Sani Abacha (Nigerian Head of State 1993-1998). The Kano location was selected for accessibility and the city\'s position as the commercial hub of northern Nigeria. MAAUN admitted its first students in 2014 with founding faculties in sciences, management and humanities. The institution has continued to develop academic capacity and infrastructure, building reputation as one of the established private universities in northern Nigeria.

Campus & Infrastructure
Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria operates from a campus in Kano, the Kano State capital and one of Nigeria\'s largest cities. The campus features academic infrastructure including faculty buildings, research laboratories, the university library, lecture theatres, student halls of residence and sports facilities. Kano is connected by road to Kaduna (about 3 hours south), Katsina (3 hours west) and Maiduguri (8 hours east). Air access is via Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport with daily flights to Lagos and Abuja and direct international flights to Cairo, Jeddah, Khartoum and other destinations.
