NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Fika is one of Nigeria's 37 permanent National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps, hosting the mandatory 21-day orientation programme for fresh graduates posted to the state for their NYSC service year. The NYSC programme, established by Decree 24 of 1973, requires all Nigerian graduates under 30 years of age to undergo one year of national service in a state other than their state of origin. The orientation camp is the first of four phases of the service year (orientation, primary assignment, community development service, winding-up and passing-out), and serves as both an induction into national service and a transformative experience exposing graduates to the diversity of Nigerian regions and cultures. The camp is located in Fika LGA, in the North-East geopolitical zone with Sahel savanna climate, in the Yobe State capital. The orientation programme runs across the standard 21-day period and includes military-style drills (under Nigerian Army NYSC officers), early morning physical training, lectures on NYSC programme objectives and national orientation, social and cultural activities (including the famous 'Mami Market' where corps members socialise and buy/sell), participation in social development project announcements, swearing-in ceremony, and posting letters for primary assignment placement at the conclusion. Camp Experience

Corps members are organised into platoons (10 platoons of about 250 members each) and assigned to mami market shifts, kitchen detail, and platoon competitions.

Tips for a Smooth Camp

Arrive as early as possible on registration day to avoid long queues. Keep your call-up letter and credentials safe — losing them on camp is a disaster. Stay hydrated. Make friends in your platoon. Photocopy every original document before you leave home. Do not skip morning parade — attendance is recorded.

Redeployment Notes

Redeployment from this state is granted on three grounds: medical (with hospital letter), marital (with marriage certificate dated before camp), and security (rarely). Apply within the first week of camp. Acceptance rates are typically below 30% — do not bank on relocation.

Food & Mami Market

Mami market within the camp sells food, drinks, toiletries, recharge cards and basic provisions at slightly above-market prices. Plan to spend ₦1,000–₦2,000/day on extras beyond the camp-provided meals.
